Teaching and Training

Train to Teach at South Essex College

Whether you are looking to study to progress to a degree, have industry experience and want a career change, have a degree and are looking to get into teaching, or are already working in the sector and want to gain your teaching qualifications, we have a course to suit you.

There are many pathways into teaching and finding the right route can be confusing, particularly because many programmes being promoted in the media are only suitable for a small section of graduates. At South Essex College we offer alternative routes into teaching that many “get into teaching” schemes do not cover and will help steer you in the right direction to start your teaching career.

Resources for getting into teaching

To learn more about the teaching sector, including the different types of qualifications available, please read our Pathways to Teaching document.

To help determine the most suitable route for you to get into teaching, please email headmissions@southessex.ac.uk to arrange a consultation.

“The programme provided on hand, continued support from highly advanced practitioners, who gave honest and reflective feedback. Within the first term studying the PGCE programme I was appointed my first teaching position as an Associate Lecturer for the Evening and Weekend Provision at SEC. I am current working as the Course Team Leader for a new course within Foundation Learning working with pre-16 learners that have been home educated. I would highly recommend anyone to start a journey into teaching and take the steps to complete a PGCE programme with South Essex College. It is one of my achievements that I am very proud of and I love teaching!”
