National Apprenticeship Week 2025

South Essex Colleges Group (SECG) is excited to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week this week (10-14 Feb), promoting the training route, students and industries involved in the sector. Industries such as digital, construction, engineering and logistics will be the focus of across the week raising awareness of the career pathways within each sector.

An apprenticeship is programme of education, offered at different levels, that combines practical work experience with academic learning. This allows learners to gain hands-on experience in a specific trade or profession while earning a wage, working under the guidance of experienced professionals as well as attend college to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

The week will see the College Group share a wide range of apprenticeship-themed content from their website and across it’s social media channels, including hints and tips on how to access apprenticeship information for employers and potential applicants.

For current learners, there are many events planned during the week across our Basildon, Southend and Thurrock campuses. These include a range of talks and demonstrations including visits from employers such as Bemco Electrical and City Plumbing, Site King, P&G and Toomeys. There will also be fun activities and competitions taking place every day.

Employer Engagement Team Leader. Vikki Stratford said: “At South Essex Colleges Group we recognise that there is a huge skills gap in most industries and apprenticeships can bridge this. We have a fantastic team engaging with employers such as CBRE, P&G, Project Skills Solution and Plumb Tech who are always looking for new talent.

“With the help of work experience, we are able to match learners with employers and help to build and strengthen their workforce. The amazing events taking place at SEGC over National Apprenticeship Week will showcase our Apprenticeship programmes.”
