Overview

Formerly PTLLS, this introductory course to education is suitable for anyone interested in starting a career in teaching and training.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is a ten week introduction to teaching and/or training that will give an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching/training sessions and how to assess and give constructive and developmental feedback.

This course is ideal for you if you work, or want to work as a teacher/trainer in the further education and skills sector; if you are not in a teaching/training role or have just started a teaching/training role; if you want a short qualification to enable you to make career choices.

You should have an idea of what subject you'd like to teach, and either have or be working towards a qualification in that area.

Entry Requirements

  • You must be 19 or over
  • You must be considering a subject for delivery and have achieved/be aiming to achieve a qualification and experience for that subject/skill at the appropriate level
  • You must have literacy levels suitable for reading and interpreting written tasks, and for writing clearly and coherently. You will complete a 30 minute hand written exercise at interview to demonstrate this.

Course Structure

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and training skills sector. Trainees who successfully complete this qualification will gain a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. They will also learn how to sequence learning, plan and deliver sessions, using appropriate resources and teaching methods and be able to identify the characteristics of effective assessment and feedback.
