Students support local food bank

A group of students at South Essex College have collected donations to support a local food bank.

First and second year aviation students, who study at the college’s Southend Campus, collected donations of tinned food, toiletries, and other essential items to be donated to the collection point in Sainsbury’s supermarket close to the college.

Items donated are distributed to 57 West, a charity is based in Southend which supports rough sleepers and low-income households within the Southend area.

The students decided to set up the collection as part of the Social Action Project element of their course which involved them supporting a community initiative.

Tutor Karen Doran said the students were keen to get involved.

She said: “The pandemic has been hard for everyone, but some have been impacted terribly. The students were quick to choose to support those in need and spread some cheer and support during these difficult times.”
