Students cruise on careers discovery

Travel and Tourism students at South Essex College enjoyed a tour of an ocean liner to find out how they could get into the industry once they finish their studies.

Cruise and Maritime Voyages invited students to visit its Columbus ship as it was docked in Tilbury for a tour of the cabins, decks, beauty &hair rooms, restaurants, bars and entertainment areas.

The group was also invited to a Q&A session with the management on board the ship to understand the different roles available and to get an insight into what can be expected when working on board a ship.

Sarah Argent, Travel & Tourism Lecturer said it was a fantastic opportunity for students.

She said: “This experience will help the students understand what a great, but tough, life it is at sea. Visits such as this are invaluable because it gives students the chance to see a real life working environment.”
