Graduation case study 2021: Sophie Panons
Sophie Panons’ time studying for a PgCE (FE& Skills Sector) course has put her in a good position for a career in teaching.
The 22-year-old has made great strides after her studies and is now working as a sport and PE teacher as well as in the Health & Social Care department at Harris Clapham Sixth form, a freshly built sixth form in South London.
She said the training within the course prepared her in such a way that a majority of courses would, however the placement that she undertook alongside the theoretical training is what really prepared her for her future.
She said: “On an initial teaching education (ITE) programme you learn about the different needs of learners, but it’s not until you are face-to-face with a student you realise how challenging it can be. It’s all about putting theory into practice on this course.
“I would just like to take the opportunity to recommend this course to others and thank my amazing teachers for their support during my studies. Without my teachers and my mentor from Chelmsford College, I most definitely would not be in the job role I am in right now.”
Her tutor said: “We are very proud of her ‘Outstanding’ teaching practise during her programme and wish her all the success for the future.”
