GCSE case study: Jutka Lorincz

Jutka Lorincz, 28 from Grays, began her journey at South Essex College with a Pre-Access course two years ago.

She had always wanted to work in the medical profession, so last year decided to do an Access to Science course whist studying for her GCSEs in maths and English. Through hard work, 100% attendance and massive determination, Jutka achieved an amazing grade 6 in both GCSEs and full 45 credit distinctions in her access course.

This excellent outcome is made all the more incredible because English is not Jutka’s first language and all through her studies she has been mum to her now three year old child.

She explained: “When I first came to England from Romania, firstly I had to learn the language. I worked as a waitress, and started to study hard. The last year has been hard but I am proud that I have been successful. The College has been very supportive and the teachers are great."

Jutka has been accepted to study a degree In Diagnostic Radiography at City University in London and is well on the way to securing the job of her dreams.

She said: “My success is possible due partly to the help and support of my family and the College but also two years of hard work, late nights, always attending lessons and commitment. I am looking forward to the next challenge.”
