Colleges Week 2021 - Stephenson Road campus

South Essex College is one of the largest further education providers in the country, delivering an array of courses from our sites in the boroughs of Southend, Basildon and Thurrock.

As part of Colleges Week we will be showcasing one of our campuses each day and what it has to offer.

Today’s focus is on Stephenson Road campus, Leigh-on-Sea.

Stephenson Road campus, located off Progress Road in Leigh, is our Centre for Advanced Technologies campus which was created by converting two existing buildings into training spaces.

The large scale of the buildings lent themselves to being utilised as training areas for the motor vehicle, construction and engineering trades.

The buildings are now cutting-edge workshops, one of which is home to the college’s motor vehicle and motor cycle training provision.

The workshop features all of the equipment found in a traditional motor vehicle facility which will enable students to get hands on experience in maintenance and repair.

The other building is equipped with numerous construction workshops to deliver practical training in areas such as bricklaying, painting & decorating, carpentry, tiling and plastering.

From September 2022 the campus will also offer On Site Construction T-Level. This new qualification combines classroom study with on the job training as part of a substantial industry placement. Industry placements with an employer will last at least 315 hours.

Engineering provision is also available at the site covering areas such as welding, fabrication, CAD, product design and manufacture, electronic and electrical testing, and mechanical measurement.
