All change at the top for South Essex College

South Essex College’s Principal and Chief Executive, Angela O’Donoghue CBE, retired last week after leading the college for nearly 10 years.

Denise Brown, former Principal and Chief Executive of Stoke on Trent College, will now take over the reins of the largest college in Essex.

Denise has 26 years’ experience in further education, including 18 years’ experience in senior leadership roles.

Angela’s successful tenure as CEO saw her achieve an Ofsted Good rating for the college in 2017 and recently secure a winning bid to create an Institute of Technology (IoT) in the South East of the country.

Originally from Liverpool, Angela held Principal positions at City of Sunderland College and Bsix Sixth Form College in Hackney before moving to Essex in 2012.

Angela said: “I have really enjoyed my time at South Essex College. The college is now in a very good position with high quality college buildings running along the Thames Estuary, good quality delivery and excellent relationships with a wide range of partners particularly employers.

“Thank you to everybody who has worked with me during my time at the college, your support and partnership have been greatly appreciated.”

Denise said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been given this opportunity to lead South Essex College, the staff team and student body are amazing and achieve incredible things. I am looking forward to sharing that success and helping to build the next stage of development for the college.”
