Colleges Week 2021 - Thurrock campus

South Essex College is one of the largest further education providers in the country, delivering an array of courses from our sites in the boroughs of Southend, Basildon and Thurrock.

As part of Colleges Week we will be showcasing one of our campuses each day and what it has to offer.

Today’s focus is on Thurrock campus.

Thurrock Centre campus is located at the top of Grays High Street, a short walk from rail and bus terminals, making it a convenient place to study.

The campus houses many bespoke learning areas to cater for a wide range of vocational courses.

We have recently invested in new science labs at the campus to offer courses in Forensics and Criminal Investigation for school leavers, and GCSE biology for adults.

There are also working kitchens where catering and hospitality students can put their skills to the test to create delicious dishes, while hair and beauty students are able to undertake supervised treatments on real clients in our dedicated hair and beauty salons.

Students wishing to train in areas of construction and engineering have access to dedicated learning spaces to get hands on experience in subjects such as electrical instillations, carpentry and joinery, bricklaying, and plumbing.

Other courses available at Thurrock campus include music, performance and production, performing and production arts, business and accounting, health and social care, early years, and public services.

We are also pleased to announce an exciting new course will be available from the campus from September 2022. The Supply Chain Logistics Level 3 programme will be delivered over two years and will be taught in collaboration with national and international partners.

Located on the Thames Estuary and close to London, the college is in a prime position close to major rail, air and sea transport hubs, as well as significant warehousing facilities. Our industry links in these areas are ever expanding — one high profile partner is London DP World, the most globally connected port in the UK.

It is anticipated that students will have an opportunity to undertake a study exchange to the Netherlands in their second year of study.

Not only does the site offer courses for school leavers, but adults too. These courses are perfect for those who wish to upskill  in their current careers, but also for those who want to retrain for a different sector. They are also perfect for those who want to get back into education and may not have got the grades they needed when they were at school or college.

The site also offers higher education courses.
