Staff shine at annual AAA Awards

Outstanding staff at South Essex College have been recognised at an awards ceremony.

Trophies and certificates were handed out during the College’s annual staff AAA Awards to staff who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Angela O'Donoghue, Principal and Chief Executive of the College and Kathy Mulvey, Vice Principal Student Support, presented the awards.

Hundreds of nominations were received from students and staff to recognise members of the College across different categories. A total of 30 awards were presented on the day.

Many of the nominations came from students themselves who were keen to thank members of staff who have encouraged and supported them achieve.

One nomination from a student for Health and Science lecturer Ryan Saunders read: “He puts student needs high above his own, going out of his way to help students achieve their qualifications and helping them to understand, push themselves and learn in new and exciting ways.”

Another nomination, for Service Industries lecturer Luke Pitty, read: “He can have some fun but he will always make sure that work is being done to a distinction standard. He is also a very good role model to students and you can always go to him if you need help of you need talk about something

College Principal Angela O’Donoghue handed out the awards and congratulated the recipients.

She said: “I’m proud to hear so many wonderful stories about staff going the extra mile to help students achieve and support colleagues. Everyone plays a crucial part at the College and these awards recognise great efforts from staff. Congratulations to all our winners.”

In the College’s latest Ofsted report, the work of staff was highlighted in several areas. One citation reads: “Teachers and assessors are highly qualified and skilled in their vocational subjects. They use their knowledge well to provide good levels of instruction and guidance during lessons.”
