Halfords Auto Centre’s Apprenticeship Engagement Event

Basildon College’s Stephenson Road campus was delighted to welcome Halfords Auto Centre for an insightful day with our Level 2 Motor Vehicle learners.

The Halfords Auto Centre team Dan and Neil presented the many apprenticeship opportunities available to our students as well as an overview on what it’s like to work for the business. Opening their eyes to the automotive industry and career pathways available to them after college.

Following the session, Dan and Neil took learners to Stephenson Road’s state-of-the-art motor vehicle workshop for a hands-on group task. In their teams, our learners were asked to prepare their cars against a worksheet provided by the Halfords team. This included checking tyre pressure, the battery, horns, noting down any damages and missing parts and keeping a record throughout. All while maintaining a professional standard and keeping their cars clean.

Motor Vehicle student, Hayden Piggott said “I was a bit nervous at the start of the session, but once we started the practical it was fine. I found the session very interesting and I now feel more confident in my abilities. I managed to get selected for the interview with Neil and Dan and I felt that went well. I would love the opportunity to start an apprenticeship with Halfords.”

John Clarke, Motor Vehicle Tutor at Stephenson Road said “The Halfords apprenticeship engagement event provided our learners with an exceptional opportunity to gain meaningful insight into the standards, expectations, and career pathways within the motor industry.
The Halfords team delivered a highly professional session that clearly outlined the structure of their apprenticeship programmes, the progression routes available and the real-world skills required to succeed as a technician. Events like this play a crucial role in bridging the gap between education and industry.
The engagement from the Halfords team helped build confidence, motivation and a stronger sense of direction among our learners. It was a thoroughly positive experience that will undoubtedly support their development as they move toward apprenticeships and careers in the motor sector.”
