University Centre South Essex leads The Forum Southend into a new era of higher education excellence

University Centre South Essex (UCSE), part of South Essex Colleges Group, is powering The Forum Southend confidently into its next chapter, proudly confirming that it will continue to deliver university level learning from the building’s dedicated third floor.
As the University of Essex prepares to relocate its Southend activity to Colchester from 31 July 2026, UCSE is stepping forward as the anchor of higher education within The Forum. Rather than slowing down, the building is evolving - with UCSE at the heart of its mission to remain Southend’s go to destination for learning, culture, creativity and community life.
UCSE will continue to teach, support and inspire students from its purpose designed third floor space, offering career focused degrees validated by respected partners including UEA, UAL, Pearson and The Open University. With industry experienced lecturers, employer designed programmes and a commitment to widening opportunity, UCSE is shaping the region’s future workforce and driving local prosperity.
Deputy Executive Director - HE and Quality Performance and Standards, Sharon Dunphy said: “University Centre South Essex is proud to be at the heart of The Forum’s next chapter. We are committed to providing high quality, career focused higher education that gives local people the opportunity to achieve their ambitions while supporting the skills and workforce needs of our region. The Forum is a unique and inspiring place to learn, and we look forward to building on its success and ensuring it remains a vibrant centre for education, culture and community in Southend.”
Alongside UCSE’s expanding role, Southend Library will maintain its world class public services; from thousands of books and digital resources to free internet access, a vibrant Children’s Library and specialist Local Studies facilities. Focal Point Gallery will continue to deliver its bold programme of exhibitions, workshops and events, bringing cutting edge contemporary art to the heart of the city.
The Forum’s partners are united in ensuring the building remains bold, ambitious and community centred. With UCSE leading its educational future, the message is clear: The Forum Southend is here to stay, here to grow and here to inspire.
