University Centre South Essex (UCSE), part of South Essex Colleges Group, has celebrated the achievements of its higher education students at its annual graduation ceremony, with nearly 200 students receiving awards across a range of subjects.

Held at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend-on-Sea, the ceremony recognised the hard work, dedication and academic achievements of the graduating students. Forty-four graduates received first-class degrees, 17 graduates received special awards in recognition of their achievements, while eight were awarded distinctions.

The diplomas were presented by distinguished guest Professor Timothy Gocher OBE DL, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, an entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist who has dedicated much of his career to building businesses, creating opportunities and making a positive difference to communities, particularly through his work in Nepal.

Professor Gocher is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dolma Fund Management, Founder of the Dolma Foundation and an Honorary Professor of Sustainable Business at the University of Nottingham.

Professor Gocher said of the event: “It was a privilege to hand out these awards. The faces of those that passed me on the stage tonight were faces that shone with their achievement and were filled with delight. The biggest delight for me was to see those faces heading towards a bright future.”

Denise Brown, Group Chief Executive of South Essex Colleges Group, congratulated all the graduates on their achievements.

She said: “Graduation is always a special occasion, and we are immensely proud of our students and all they have achieved this year. We wish them every success in the future.

“I would also like to extend our thanks to everyone who joined us in celebration, including our distinguished guests, Councillor Tony Cox and Professor Timothy Gocher OBE DL.”

Special award winner, BA (Hons) Early Years Care and Education graduate, Molly Scott said "I would definitely recommend studying at UCSE. Not only has the course helped with my confidence, but I've met loads of new people, and it's given me many new opportunities to increase my skills,”

Molly is now going to pursue a career in teaching.

University Centre South Essex offers a range of higher education courses designed to equip students with the qualifications and skills needed to progress into successful careers or continue their studies.
