Graduation 2018: Tamar Hicks
Tamar was one of the first ever students to graduate from South Essex College’s BA (Hons) Costume Construction course, in collaboration with the Royal Opera House.
She currently works in visual merchandising for HnM and is part of a local Southend art group, Tenbomb.
Tamar, 39, from Southend, said: “I loved the freedom to be creative on the course, I learnt so much about my self-development. The technical staff had a huge impact on me and my progress.”
She also won an Royal Opera House award for her final major project based on Swan Lake. It was judged by Fay Fullerton, Head of Costume at ROH.
The Judges were overwhelmed at the quality of her work plus the time and effort that had gone in to her design, a reimagined piece based on the Swan Lake maidens.
