Former students now flying high on their apprenticeships

Former level 3 aviation operations students from South Essex Colleges Group who are currently doing an apprenticeship at British Airways returned to Southend City Campus to talk to students about their experiences and daily life as  an apprentice.

Jake Barkley and Daniel Germon gave a PowerPoint presentation showing aspects of their apprenticeship in Ground Operations and chatted to students about how to get their foot in the door when applying for apprenticeships.

British Airways specifically asked the pair to address the current students as they are keen to recruit from the college because Dan and Jake are doing so well.

Jake said: “The apprenticeship can be quite demanding as it involves shift work but we are learning so much.”

Dan added: “If you have a passion for aviation I would 100% recommend the course because it contains all the knowledge that you will need and put you in a good place for future employment in the aviation industry.”

Tutor, Karen Doran said: "It is a testament to Dan and Jake’s achievements that BA have asked them to speak to our current students, we are very proud of them.”
