£40,000 studio desk donation boosts music facilities at South Essex Colleges Group

South Essex Colleges Group’s (SECG) Music Department has enhanced its industry-standard facilities thanks to a generous donation of an Audient studio desk valued at more than £40,000 from pointblank music school.

Named ‘Best Independent University’ at the Whatuni Awards and the only specialist music institution to hold TEF Gold recognition from the Office for Students, pointblank music school has forged a successful and ongoing partnership with SECG. A high percentage of SECG Music leavers progress to degree-level study at the institution each year.

Ski Oakenfull, Head of Education & Curriculum at pointblank music school, said: “We are delighted to donate our Audient desk to our friends at South Essex Colleges Group and hope it helps inspire the next generation of sound engineers and music producers. We look forward to strengthening our collaboration and to welcoming students to continue their studies at degree level at pointblank music school.”

The desk will be installed in SECG’s professional recording studio at The Backstage Centre in Purfleet, significantly enhancing the technical training available to students.

Access to professional-standard equipment is essential in preparing learners for careers in the music and creative industries, and this mixing desk will allow us to strengthen the technical training delivered within our studio.”

SECG also extends its sincere thanks to the ten pointblank staff members who generously gave their time to help load the desk safely onto the college minibus, ensuring a smooth and successful collection.
