Novel scheme launched to encourage reading for pleasure

The College’s Learning Resources Centres (LRCs) have launched a new initiative to inspire students and staff to read for pleasure.

The Recommended Reads scheme encourages students and staff to suggest one of their favourite books, journals, magazines, or blogs for others to enjoy.

Display stands have been put up in each campus LRC which each feature a number of recommended reads alongside an endorsement from the person who suggested it.

Not only can you get inspiration from others on what to read next, you can also recommend your own favourites.

Hayley Ferro, Southend Learning Centre Facilitator, said it was a great way to inspire others and encouraged students and staff to get involved.

She said: “Reading for pleasure is a fantastic way to relax, unwind and actively engage your sense of imagination! It’s also a great way to encourage people to talk about the literature they have read. We want to know what your favourite page turner is so others can enjoy these pieces of work.”

If you want some inspiration on what to read, visit your campus LRC and have a look at some of the suggestions already submitted.

You can share your suggestion by filling out a short form in the LRC, or you can email Sherlock@southessex.ac.uk
