Watching the Detectives

Students from the Policing Course at South Essex College Group were treated to a visit from The City of London Police.

Students from the Policing Course at South Essex College Group were treated to a visit from Detective Andy Jackson from The City of London Police.

Detective Jackson began by introducing the course to the International Police Association and associated benefits of networking with over 400,00 serving or retired Police members from worldwide Police Forces.

Detective Jackson has 24 years of Policing experience commencing at Basildon in general duties progressing to Criminal Investigation Department, known as C.I.D, then progressing to Fraud and organised crime units in the City of London Police. Detective Jackson’s section is funded by the financial sectors to investigate and solve organised fraud gangs and the work has taken him all over the UK as part of his investigations.

He told Course Team Leader, Lee McCarthy, that whilst he felt nervous about speaking in front of young people, he was soon put at ease at the questions the group were asking and was able to pass on his experiences. Detective Jackson said that the London Police C.I.D were very keen to let students know of entry pathways into the police for the role of detectives.

Future collaboration with the London Police will involve students visiting City of London Police Headquarters and a behind the scenes view of the Old Bailey Courts.

The South Essex College Group Policing Course has to date secured relationships with Essex Police and now the City of London Police. Future collaboration will be looking towards building ties with the London Metropolitan Police which will further enhance student pathways into Policing.
