South Essex Colleges Group is Ofsted Good!

South Essex Colleges Group (SECG) is celebrating after achieving a ‘Good’ grade in its recent Ofsted inspection, a significant milestone for the education and training provider as well as the wider community.

The college is committed to being the heart of community transformation and has been awarded a Grade 2 by Ofsted officials following a recent visit to its colleges in Basildon, Southend and Thurrock, making it one of the few all-round further education providers to be recognised as ‘good’ in South Essex. The College was also assessed as making a strong contribution to meeting local and regional skills needs.

The report recognised that:

  • Students study in a calm and inclusive environment that is conducive to learning, are treated as adults by staff and behave respectfully in lessons. They work well with their peers, listening and learning from each other.
  • Students, adults and apprentices have high rates of attendance at their vocational lessons and are motivated to attend lessons because they enjoy their subject and value the teaching they receive.
  • The college promotes high expectations for students’ and apprentices’ achievement and has implemented a range of effective strategies to improve achievement rates.
  • Students are well prepared for their next steps and a high proportion move on to positive destinations such as employment or further areas of study in further and higher education.

The Grade 2 is a result of our staff's tireless efforts in delivering exceptional knowledge, education & skills development, and support, enabling our students to reach their full potential.

South Essex Colleges Group Chief Executive, Denise Brown said: “We are delighted with this amazing result; so much hard work has gone into this outcome from staff, students and the general college community. This great effort has contributed to this being the college’s ‘best year yet’.

“This grade reflects our position in the further education sector, we are a college that is at the heart of the community and we strive to provide a great learning environment for our students so they can learn, grow and achieve their ambitions”

South Essex Colleges Group Deputy CEO, Adam Fahey said: “Two years of hard work and commitment by staff and students have been recognised in this report. It is great news for South Essex.”
