South Essex College becomes Huawei ICT Academy

South Essex College’s ICT provision has received a welcome boost by becoming a ‘Huawei ICT Academy’.
The Huawei ICT Academy is a global educational programme developed by Huawei, the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world, having overtaken Ericsson in 2012.
Working in partnership with universities and colleges globally, the academy strives to deliver employable skills and training in the latest technologies. The programme encourages students to gain ICT industry recognized certifications to help kick-start their careers as well as develop new talents with practical skills for the ICT industry.
As part of the Academy, South Essex College students have been invited to enter Huawei’s ICT Skills Competition, a global contest against students from all around the world.
The students will showcase their ICT skills and knowledge in a series of online challenges with the highest scoring students from around the country being entered into the Western Europe finals. Winners in the regional final will then have the opportunity to progress to the global finals in China.
Prizes for winners include electronic goodies, exam vouchers, a trip to Huawei headquarters and even a job offer with the company.
To promote this special competition South Essex College students had an opportunity to speak to Huawei’s representative David Zhang about the competition during the Freshers Fair at Southend Campus.
ICT Programme Leader Rathi Raman said: “This competition is a great opportunity for our students to explore the latest technologies and to understand the latest industry trends. This will give them more comprehensive and in-depth understanding on the technological world of today and tomorrow.”
