Skye's the limit

South Essex Colleges Group Student Support worker, Michael Thorpe, brought his gorgeous therapy dog Skye to visit Southend City College.

Michael, who has been at college for four years, supports complex needs students by helping them get to their classes, taking notes, and offering all round support.

Skye, is Michael’s therapy dog and companion and he has had her since she was eight weeks old. Essex Therapy Dogs is a local dog therapy community interest company who visit people in Essex to provide comfort and support. Skye often goes into care homes and hospitals to visit everyone and is always a popular surprise.

Michael told us: “ Skye has the best nature and my best companion. I met with the team from Essex Therapy Dogs in a café, to test Skye’s suitability, and she just laid there amongst the busy crowd and lots of dogs. So she passed the test!”

Michaels daughter works in a children’s home, and when Skye was 10 months old she took Skye to meet the children and proved to be a huge hit. This success spurred Michael on to contact Therapy Dogs and start training.

Michael and Skye are a great team providing support and comfort wherever they are needed.
