Isabella set for landmark challenge

A member of staff at South Essex College is taking on a half marathon challenge in aid of charity.

Hair and Beauty Facilitator Isabella Turner and her partner Bill decided to enter the London Landmarks Half Marathon, which takes place on 24 March, after a family friend was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.

They will be raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK while taking in sights such as Big Ben, the London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, and the Tower of London along the 13.1 mile route.

Isabella is a keen 5k runner but knows a half marathon is a different challenge altogether. She has been training at least three times a week with a mixture of routines including high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and long distance runs, her furthest so far being nine miles.

Training in and around hilly Benfleet has also put her stamina to the test ahead of the big event.

Isabella said she was looking forward to the challenge.

She said: “I know it’s going to be hard, but I’m determined to do it and have fun!

“My only goal is to finish, I don’t care how long it takes, this is about taking on an exciting new challenge and raise money for a cause that is very close to me.”
