Hairdressing students set for style challenge

Two hairdressing students at South Essex College have been entered into a county wide competition.
Catherine Martin and Chloe Copping, both 16, study at the College’s Southend campus and will compete at the Your Stage event on Monday which has been organised by EssexHairdressers.com
They are the two youngest participants in the competition, which is open to hairdressers under the age of 25, and they will have just 30 minutes to wow the judges with their styling talents.
Catherine has chosen an Avant Garde style while Chloe has selected a more intricate plaited design.
Catherine said the competition was a great opportunity.
She said: “I’m excited and nervous at the same time, but it will be a great experience to learn from, whatever the outcome. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s designs to see what they come up with.”
Chloe added: “We’ve only been on our course since September, so it is a bit surreal that we’ve been chosen to enter the competition, but I’m really looking forward to it. It will be good to get feedback from the judges which I can use to further my learning at College.”
Tutor Jacqueline Miles put the students forward for the competition.
She said: “Since starting their course in September, both students have shown a high standard and their commitment to their studies is second to none. It will be a great opportunity for them to perform in a real life environment and inspire them to utilise their talents.”
