Hairdressing student shines in styling competition

The talents of a South Essex College hairdressing student have been recognised in a county wide competition.

Catherine Martin, 16, entered EssexHairdressers.com’s Your Stage event and was over the moon to secure third place in the contest, despite only starting her course nine weeks ago.

Catherine was one of the youngest participants in the competition, alongside fellow student Chloe Copping, who was also praised for her efforts.

The event was open to Essex hairdressers under the age of 25 who had just 30 minutes to wow the judges with their styling talents.

Catherine chose an Avant Garde style while Chloe has selected a more intricate plaited design.

Catherine said she couldn’t believe it when she was announced in third place.
She said: “It was a really good experience to learn from and I am still overwhelmed to finish in third place. I was shocked when my name was called out!”

Chloe added: “It was a really good experience and I really enjoyed seeing the other contestants’ creative work, to envisage what you can achieve and what you need to improve on.”

Tutor Jacqueline Miles praised the students on their excellent work.

She said: “I am extremely proud of the students, their work was simply amazing. It’s even more impressive considering they have only been on their course for nine weeks. Congratulations to Catherine for coming third in the competition which was thoroughly deserved.”
