Good for ME Good for FE community champion: Stuart Gibbs

As part of the Good For ME Good For FE national campaign, the college will be celebrating a ‘Community champion’ each month to demonstrate how staff go above and beyond to help their local communities.

Stuart Gibbs, Job Coach – Gateway to Vocational Learning, has a busy volunteering schedule outside of his role at the college. He is a Trustee for Billericay Foodbank helping to collect and distribute food items for people in need. He also works with several African organisations including Boot2Africa, which donates football kits and boots to the continent, plus he sponsors young people through their education in Embu, Kenya.

Stuart said: “I volunteer for personal development experiences, it exposes you to the major problems the world is facing today. I believe these experiences make you better equipped to face your own challenges. Plus international volunteering allows you to see new cultures, languages and food. You get to meet some exciting people too.”

He added: “Volunteering gives you a huge sense of fulfilment, confidence and purpose particularly when you are helping change people’s lives for the better. I would definitely recommend volunteering to others as you will gain amazing experiences and learn new skills.”
