Good for ME Good for FE community champion: Jo Whatley

As part of the Good For ME Good For FE national campaign, the college will be celebrating a ‘Community champion’ each month to demonstrate how staff go above and beyond to help their local communities.

Jo Whatley, Student Learning Coach (HE & Access Arrangements), volunteers at Hawkwell Athletic Football Club in many different roles.

She is the senior team and mini soccer referee secretary. She also runs the café and works on the club committee as the divisional officer.

Jo said: “I have volunteered since I was 14 years old for brownies, scouts and now the football club. I just really enjoy it. I have met all sorts of people from my community.”

She added: “I would recommend volunteering without a shadow of a doubt. You don’t have to give loads of hours, just a couple can make a difference. I have met people from across the world, even the Queen! I am so proud the things other people have achieved and have been made possible because I have given my time to volunteer.”
