Football Academy students score with fundraising event

Football Academy students at South Essex College put on a variety of activities to raise funds for charity.

The students, who study at the College’s Southend Campus, raised £135.45 for the Indee Rose Trust, a charity which helps children and their families who have been diagnosed with a brain or spinal tumour.

Fundraising activities included a table tennis match with Head of the Football Academy and former Southend United Manager, Steve Tilson, and a basketball challenge to see how many baskets could be scored in one minute. The students also organised a ‘keepy-up’ contest and raffle with prizes donated by Simply Gym in Southend.

The students decided to raise funds for the charity because of the College’s close partnership with Concord Rangers FC. The club’s chairman, Antony Smith, is CEO of The Environmental Group Trustee of The Indee Rose Trust, so the students wanted to raise money for the charity which is close to the heart of the Concord family.

Lecturer David Birnie said he was extremely proud of the students’ achievement.

He said: “The link between the College and Concord Rangers FC is invaluable to the students, so they wanted to give something back to help a fantastic cause.

“The day of activities was a lot of fun and it was great to see so many people get involved.”
