Southend Council partnered up with EHCP students from South Essex College Group to create an informational video.

Southend Local Authority visited the Southend City Campus, to meet with learners who took part in the Southend Young Person’s Forum to show them a video they participated in about EHCP’s. The video was to encourage students with EHCP’s to take part in the survey.

SEND Local Offer and Co-Production Officer at Southend Council, Louise Charles, said: “Students at South Essex College Group, worked with us to develop a survey for young people about the annual review process. They starred in the video to promote the survey and we showed it to the students.” About the reception from the students, Louise said: “The video was received very well. They were proud of it and were really impressed to be involved with it. We enjoyed working with them.”

Level 1 Health and Social Care student, Nathan Craig, who has an EHCP and took part in the video said: “The support I’ve received at the college has been very helpful. They’ve been very helpful with Maths, English and all my work.”

Louise concluded: “This video was about encouraging young people to take part in the annual review survey, so everyone who has got and ECHP will have one. This is to ensure that their care is working for them and to enhance their chances in their chosen future careers.”

The video is to be published via Southend Council, Friday 30 November.
