College technician set for marathon challenge

An engineering and construction technician at South Essex College is gearing up to run this year’s London Marathon.
Paul Firth, who is based at the College’s Thurrock Campus, is taking on the 26.2 mile challenge in April in aid of Whizz-Kidz charity.
The organisation gives disabled children the chance to lead a more independent life by ensuring they get the right mobility equipment, advice and training at the right time, to enjoy an active childhood.
Paul was inspired to raise money for the charity after being impressed with the work it does to help young people.
Paul has run half marathons before, but this will be his first full marathon. He said he was looking forward to the challenge ahead.
He said: “After watching the marathon last year, seeing the atmosphere and the amount raised for numerous charities, I decided to take it on this year.
“It will be challenging and very hard but I am determined to complete the marathon in a good time. Knowing I have lots of supporters behind me, cheering me on and raising money for Whizz-Kidz will spur me on to the finish line!”
