College holds national conference for lecturers

South Essex College held a national conference for education professionals at their campus in Thurrock.

The Advanced Practitioner South Conference saw further education lecturers attend from around the country to discuss teaching methods and best practice in the sector.

An Advanced Practitioner is an exemplar of good learning and teaching practice, providing coaching support for new staff and existing staff who require support, guidance or advice to improve their classroom practice.
The conference included a series of talks and workshops about making progress, delivering effective feedback and support for specialist staff.

Andy Crissell, Teaching and Learning Coach at the college, organised the event. He said: “The conference is the first southern national conference of its kind and its organisation was a collaboration by many Advanced Practitioners.

“The conference was a great success, the wider community are already starting to consider how we sustain the networking opportunities the event provided in readiness for a 2021 conference.”

One attendee gave the following feedback: “Really interesting day, great to have the time and space to think about one thing at a time and to network with like-minded people.”
