Award winning student walks the red carpet!
The 2024 ‘Into Film’ awards took place on Tuesday 25th June at ODEON Luxe, Leicester Square, celebrating the best and brightest young filmmaking talent from across the UK. Hosted by actor, writer and director Susan Wokoma, the ceremony saw 10 awards presented to some of the UK’s most remarkable young film makers.
Safina has been studying TV and Film at Southend City College for two years. She created and edited her own documentary called ‘Disconnected’ where a teenager decides to delete all her social media apps and explores how they are designed to keep people addicted. She also explores how reducing screen time can make an impact on mental wellbeing.
Her documentary, titled ‘Disconnected’ was the overall winner for Best Documentary and was well deserved indeed.
Safina told us: “I feel proud of my work and the interest it has drawn, sharing it with more people and gaining a positive response motivates me to keep working hard. Next I'll be studying at University of Ravensbourne where I'll be very focused on my editing skills! I’m looking forward to meeting new people and expanding my creative abilities.”
She added: “The college spoke to us about entering short films into the competition, so they helped me with any improvements, copyright and then it was submitted. I love to document everything I can. The course is brilliant, you can be as creative as you want and the tutors are always so helpful and lovely. I plan to go to University in London to study motion graphics."
Safina’s tutor, Cathy Mayo (Creative Media Lecturer) said: “I am incredibly proud of Safina for her remarkable achievement in winning the Best Documentary award at the Into Film Awards. This prestigious recognition is a testament to her exceptional talent, hard work, and dedication to her craft. Safina's documentary not only showcases her impressive skills in storytelling and filmmaking, but also highlights important issues with depth and sensitivity. Her success is an inspiration to all her peers and a shining example of what can be accomplished with passion and perseverance.”
This is such an incredible achievement and we are all so proud of Safina for what she has achieved. We are sure that Safina will go on to do incredible things.
