Southend’s new music showcase

Music students from South Essex College are launching a brand new record label and social media showcase event to counter the Covid effect of not being able to perform at live shows.

The year 1 students who all study at the college’s Southend Campus have come together to create a record label. ‘High Tide records’ will be used to release an album filled with music made by creative young musicians in the area. ‘Southend’s new music showcase’ on Facebook and Instagram will accompany the project.

Students across the world have had to adapt to having online lessons and being in lockdown for so long. That has been no different for this group of students. Practical lessons were a struggle for them and the idea of a normal live show was out of the question so they have turned a negative into a positive.

The record label’s first project is an ambitious one. Due to be released in early June, the collaborative album will feature many genres and styles of music. As well as releasing the album, the students will also exhibit exclusive live performances and tracks through their social media movement - ‘Southend’s New Music Showcase.’

Music students from year 2 are also involved in online community, they will be uploading performance content to the social media accounts displaying their talent.

Label head and student, Kyhia Chaplin, said: “It’s be such an experience to create this label and album. I’m so happy that we get to share all of our hard work with the people of Southend and beyond. Not only has this project been very fun to be a part of but it’s also been very rewarding. We hope you enjoy the album as much as we do.”
