Inspiring the next generation with successful Taster Sessions at SECG

SECG recently welcomed an impressive number of enthusiastic young learners to a series of highly successful Taster Sessions held across our Basildon, Southend City and Thurrock Colleges.

Across Basildon College’s Luckyn Lane and Stephenson Road campuses alone, we saw an incredible turnout, with almost 200 learners joining us to get hands-on experience in areas such as Electrical, Plumbing, Marine, Engineering, Construction, Carpentry, Bricklaying and Motor Vehicle. Learners explored our industry-standard facilities and connected with our fantastic tutors to get a real feel for college life.

In addition, nearly 350 learners visited Southend City College and Thurrock College within the first four weeks of applications opening. With schools represented from across the region; including Southchurch, Shoeburyness and The Eastwood Academy at Southend City, as well as The Harris Academy, St Cleres and William Edwards at Thurrock - students were given the opportunity to dive into interactive sessions and discover the exciting pathways available across our colleges.

Deputy Admissions and Careers Manager, Allan Moth, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many enthusiastic young learners to our recent taster events. It was a fantastic opportunity to give them a real insight into college life and support their transition with hands-on experiences and meaningful engagement. Seeing their excitement and curiosity reaffirmed the importance of creating these accessible pathways into further education.”

These Taster Sessions not only inspired confidence and excitement about the next step in education but also highlighted SECG’s commitment to providing inclusive, high-quality opportunities for all learners to thrive.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and we can’t wait to see you again in September. As we continue to build connections with local schools and communities, events like these play a vital role in shaping futures and igniting ambition across South Essex.
