Games Students Visit Games Con Event!

BSC Games Design attend the world's largest Games Con event in Cologne

University Centre South Essex, BSc Game Design students attended the world’s largest Diverse International Games Design Conference set in the heart of a multicultural environment in Koelnmesse Cologne.  

Games Con is the world’s largest leading premier event for video games and is Europe’s largest business platforms industry  trade and entrainment show for the games industry. Its attracts over 320,000 visitors from all over 100 countries. 

It features the latest in gaming and technology and attracts visitors from all over the world. This is a must-see event in the gaming calendar for any avid gaming professional. The event offers the opportunity to see the latest trends and innovation from all the big players in the industry alongside the Indie releases first-hand.

The BSc Game Design Students attended the three-day event and were exposed to a range of  exciting exhibitions, panel talks, workshops and new technology gaming content on an impressive scale with over 1,227 exhibitors from over 63 countries across the world.

Students interacted with experienced game developers and industry leaders which provided them with knowledge about the games development process, There was also a cosplay village and a retro gaming section.  

Games Design Lecturer, Hastings Ndlovu,  who organised the trip said: “Hearing form top industry professionals  was amazing, these events can support and deepen student’s understanding of the industry and support them to gain practical knowledge to enhance their own gaming design projects’
Year one BSc Games Design student, Oluwafunmito Oshodi, said: “Gamescom was an enlightening trip for all of us, getting to see a different country, with a different culture, and different people, all with a shared passion for games and the communities around it. I would highly recommend it.”
