Overview

Aimed at EU and overseas citizens living in the UK whose first language is not English, this course will help you improve your English for work, your career or help you in your everyday life. In the classes you will study a range of skills including writing and speaking. This course also includes employability and the opportunity to do work experience. 

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements, though you will need an interview and assessment with an ESOL teacher.

Course Structure

In the course you will study

  • Reading, writing, speaking,  listening and grammar.
  • Maths (Functional Skills or GCSE)
  • ASDAN Employability or Personal & Social Development to improve Citizenship and prepare for progression and employability skills.
  • Work Experience

Assessment & Feedback

Exams are taken in each term and spread out throughout the course.

Please note, this qualification is only recognised in the UK and is not an internationally recognised exam.

What Next...

You will be able to progress to a more advanced ESOL course, or to other courses at the College if your English is at a suitable level.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Student of the Year, Angel Hara, was praised for the progression she has made in her studies.

Tutors of the 19-year-old from Westcliff said ‘everything from her behaviour, her commitment to the course and her level of English have all come on leaps and bounds and she has matured into a dedicated and hardworking young woman.’

They added: “She aspires to become a writer and she is very proactive in achieving her goal. In the recent story writing competition we had for national storytelling week her story absolutely blew us away with her imagination.”

Angel said she did not expect to win the award but is ‘happy and excited.’
