Access to HE (Level 3)
Access to Higher Education (Education and Childhood Studies) Level 3 Diploma
This course is for people that would like to study on a Higher Education programme in Teaching, Education or Early Years but need to gain the required entry qualifications and skills.
Access programmes entail 13 hours of direct contact time in addition to a minimum of 13 hours independent study.
You must be aged 19 or above by the 31st of August 2020.
You must have GCSE C/4 or above in English, or a Level 2 in Functional Skills (evidence of this will be required during the application cycle).
Ideally you will have both English and Maths. However, if you only hold English, you may work towards Maths whilst studying with us; this will be dependent on being able to evidence the ability to work towards Level 2.
Many universities require GCSE Maths and English rather than an equivalent. It is your responsibility to begin checking which qualifications you require with the university or college you wish to progress to.
As part of the interview process, you will also need to complete a short paper-based assessment in English.
It is advisable to obtain a work placement in a primary or secondary school to enhance your experience and support your university application. Work placements within an educational setting will require an enhanced DBS check.
You will study a range of different units across the programme, some focusing on your academic skills and some more subject specific, such as:
- Assessment for Learning
- Multicultural Education
- Special Educational Needs Awareness
- Education Studies
Assessment & Feedback
Your work will be assessed by a mixture of assessment methods which could include coursework, presentations and examinations.
