Colleges Week 2021 - Luckyn Lane campus

South Essex College is one of the largest further education providers in the country, delivering an array of courses from our sites in the boroughs of Southend, Basildon and Thurrock.

As part of Colleges Week we will be showcasing one of our campuses each day and what it has to offer.

Today’s focus is on Luckyn Lane, Basildon.

Luckyn Lane campus offers a range of courses in engineering, construction, building services and transport.

The campus has dedicated learning bays for students to get hands-on experience in areas such as plumbing, electrical installations, refrigeration and air conditioning, fabrication, welding, and CAD.

One unique course on offer at this campus is our Marine Engineering apprenticeship, the only course of its kind in the south east of the country.

For decades apprentices in marine engineering have been placed on motor vehicle courses in the absence of marine engineering courses, or they have had to study in the far north and south of the country where these courses exist.

The college is in a prime position to offer the course, with Essex boasting 360 miles of coastline and 95 marinas, bringing the much needed training to apprentices’ doorsteps.

Not only does the site offer courses for school leavers, but adults too. These courses are perfect for those who wish to upskill in their current careers, but also for those who want to retrain for a different sector.

The site also offers an HNC in Construction and the Built Environment.
