Overview

The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the skills and knowledge to understand and design domestic energy solutions that integrate Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging, and Battery storage.
Why should I do this course?
Learn to design projects covering solar PV, electric vehicle charging and battery storage.
Entry Requirements
- You must be a qualified electrician or electrical engineer
- Initial assessment for Maths and English
Course Structure
Learners will develop an understanding of customer profiling to assess energy needs and system suitability. They will learn to calculate solar potential, correctly size PV arrays, and determine the area and panel requirements for installation. The unit covers selecting appropriate inverters, estimating system costs, and finalising a complete design. Learners will also gain experience in presenting their solutions to clients, ensuring they can communicate technical recommendations effectively. This includes how systems are installed, how energy is generated and how it is stored. Learners will also explore health and safety requirements, and fault-finding activities associated with electrical installations.
Assessment & Feedback
- Assessment through externally set and internally assessed practical activity
What Next...
- Career advancement as a specialist qualified electrical engineer.
