Overview
The Level 1 Diploma in Animation, Games, and Esports is a dynamic and practical introduction to the fast-growing creative and digital industries. Designed for learners progressing from Pathways, ESOL, or those without a clear next step after Key Stage 4, this course provides a solid foundation for future study in these exciting sectors.
Through engaging, hands-on projects, students will explore the fundamentals of animation, game design, and the world of competitive esports. This course supports learners in building essential technical and creative skills while developing confidence, teamwork, and communication.
Importantly, the course also offers the opportunity to achieve Level 1 qualifications in English and Maths, helping prepare students for future progression to Level 2 study programmes such as GCSEs or vocational diplomas.
This programme plays a key role for learners who may not yet be ready for Level 2, while creating consistency in entry-level provision and supporting more tailored, inclusive learning experiences.
Entry Requirements
- Grade 1 in English and Maths, or
- Submission of a portfolio of work which demonstrates a passion for art, design, or media.
Course Structure
The UAL Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design and Media is designed to provide students who are intrigued and motivated by art and design with opportunities to explore, develop and test their creativity.
The course is a fantastic fit for learners who excel at hands-on learning and will generate opportunities to practice English and Maths whilst studying towards a career linked to Games, Animation, Concept Art, VFX and Esports.
The qualifications enable students to:
- Be introduced to the materials and processesused in art, design and media, and the skills necessary to record and express ideas
- Be aware of how contextual research is used to support creative activities
- Be introduced to the communication skills used in support of creative activities and develop an understanding of the role that communication skills play in informing and developing ideas
- Use previously acquired skills, knowledge and understanding to explore and resolve 2D, 3D and time-based creative problems
- Demonstrate personal strengths in art, design and media and to use the knowledge, understanding and skills developed in previous units.
