Overview

The C&G Level 3 Award in Inspection and Testing runs throughout the year and replaces the C&G 2394/95. The six-day course is designed to enable learners to understand the principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification, periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of electrical installations.

Entry Requirements

It is advisable that candidates for this course have solid electrical experience including some practical experience in the carrying out of testing and the use of test instruments.

  • L3 Diploma in installing electrotechnical systems and equipment or
  • Electrotechnical Services or Electrotechnical services experienced worker or
  • Equivalent qualifications or
  • ECS Gold card, JIB Electrician or
  • Approved electrician card

Course Structure

Amongst other things the course covers:

  • The requirements for completing the safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
  • The difference between periodic inspection and initial verification
  • The requirements for completion of electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation
  • Safety of system and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Commissioning of electro-technical systems and equipment

The course takes 5 days, from 8.30am to 4.30pm, plus one-day practical assessment.

Assessment

One C&G on line multiple choice exam, two ‘short answer’ written exams and 1 day practical assessment which will be arranged once the multiple choice and written exams have been passed.

The one-day practical assessment is in addition to the six days required for the course and is scheduled at a mutually agreed date with each candidate.

The course fee covers the following:

  • Registration, examination and assessment fees
  • Course materials, including IET Guidance Note 3
  • Pad and pen
  • Certification upon successful completion
  • Lunch & refreshments

In the event that candidates need to re-sit the examination, an additional C&G examination fee applies.
