Overview
These courses are designed for learners who maintain and repair electric/hybrid vehicles. It contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely in and around the vehicle’s high and low voltage electrical system and electric drive train system whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. Upon completion of this qualification, technicians will be able to practically
demonstrate that they have the skills required for repairing vehicles with low and high voltage electric technologies.

Entry Requirements
Level 2
- 3 GCSEs (Recommended)
- Appropriate vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at Level 2
Level 3
- Appropriate vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at Level 3
- Level 2 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle routine maintenance
Course Structure
The content of these qualifications has been designed to give the learners the knowledge and skills required to work safely on Electric/Hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out routine maintenance and repair activities (not voltage components or systems).
This may include vehicles that may have or had damage to their high energy/ electrical system.
- Electric/hybrid vehicle system components and operation
- Hazards surrounding electric/hybrid vehicles
- How to reduce the risks to yourself and others when working on electric/hybrid vehicles
- Safely preparing the vehicle when carrying routine maintenance (NOT high voltage components or systems)
- Health and Safety
- Industry issues
- Carrying out repairs on high energy electrical systems
- Recording information and making suitable recommendations
- IMI knowledge assessments

What Next...
Completion of level 2 will enable you to safely isolate and reinstate a high voltage system, you will then be able to progress on to the level 3 which qualifies you to replace a high voltage component when the system is isolated. After completing level 3, successful candidates can progress to the Level 4 Award in the Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and components.
