The Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health Science Professions is designed to open doors to a rewarding and impactful career, whether you are taking your first steps towards a new profession or returning to education after some time away.

Understanding that many students have other commitments, we offer a flexible learning approach with online study. This flexibility allows you to balance your studies with work, family, and other responsibilities, making it easier to pursue your dream of becoming an health science professional.

Health science professions encompass a wide range of careers, from medical and clinical roles to research and public health positions. Completing the Access to Health Science Professions course opens up numerous opportunities for further study and careers in these areas.

Entry Requirements

To study an Access to HE Diploma you must:

  • Be a resident in the UK and have a UK postcode
  • You must be aged 19 or over
  • If you fall between the ages of 19 and 23, you must already have a minimum Full Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
  • You must have at least one Functional Skills Level 2 qualification (or equivalent GCSE grade C/4) in either English or maths. If you are missing one, you must be working towards it alongside your Access to Higher Education Diploma. However, if you need to achieve both English and maths, you will not be eligible to enrol.

Learners must be actively studying for a minimum of six months before results can be ratified and certificates ordered. The six month period does not start until you have passed unit 2 of your course and you must be submitting assignments regularly (in line with the deadlines in your Individual Learning Plan) to meet this six month requirement. Certificates can only be issued once your course is paid for in full.

Course Structure

You will be provided with an Individual Learning Plan that outlines the submission deadlines for your assignments to keep you on track throughout your studies.

No Classrooms, No Timetables

Studied completely online, the flexibility of this course enables you to work towards your Health Science Professions future outside of your current commitments. So, no matter if it’s a full-time job or childcare, you can complete your Health Science Professions course around them.

There are two study routes available: full-time and part-time, aligned with the Awarding Body’s moderation timeframes and UCAS application requirements. The part-time route allows up to 18 months to complete your Access to Higher Education Diploma, while the full-time route is completed over 9 months.

We enrol in May for learners starting the course in September, and in October–November for those beginning in January.

Assessment & Feedback

A range of assessment methodologies are used, including: academic report, essay, case study analysis, illustrated report, journal article, portfolio, academic poster, presentation (video and audio recording), developing promotional activity, series of questions, academic writing skills tasks.

Exams

There are no exams included in the assessment of the course.

Feedback

At the end of each module during the Access to Higher Education Diploma, you will be tasked with an assignment. Each assignment contains various academic tasks, and once completed and submitted, you will receive feedback from your tutor.

This will allow you to develop and progress on to the next stage of your study.

On successful completion of the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Nursing), (QAA ref = 40014198), you will receive a Skills & Education Group Access, QAA recognised, Access to Higher Education Diploma at Level 3. As part of your programme, you will also receive help as well as guidance on your university application and the research you need to do to get the most out of your diploma.

To be eligible for the Adult Education Budget (AEB) funding, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Age Requirement:
    You must be aged 19 or over.
    If you fall between the ages of 19 and 23, you must already have a minimum Full Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
  • Course Completion:
    You must not have previously completed the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health Science Professions) Level 3 Diploma or any other course where the content is similar.

For more detailed information, you can refer to the AEB funding rules for 2023 to 2024 published by the Education and Skills Funding Agency. These rules apply to all providers of education and training who receive AEB funding from the Secretary of State for Education acting through ESFA.
