University Centre South Essex unveils bold new brand to lead the region’s higher education future

University Centre South Essex (UCSE) is excited to announce a major rebrand, marking a significant and timely evolution of its higher education offer and positioning the institution at the forefront of university-level provision across the region.

The refreshed identity comes at a pivotal moment for higher education in South Essex. With the closure of the University of Essex’s Southend campus, UCSE is stepping forward with a renewed sense of purpose as the region’s dedicated provider of accessible, high-quality higher education, working closely with validating partners including UEA and UAL.

The previous UCSE brand, unchanged since 2013, no longer reflected the scale, ambition, or modern student experience offered today. The new visual identity introduces a contemporary, professional and credible brand that better aligns with UCSE’s validating partners and reinforces its place within the South Essex Colleges Group (SECG).

The rebrand has been carefully developed to strike a balance between distinction and cohesion, ensuring UCSE maintains its own strong identity while fitting clearly within the wider SECG brand architecture. The preferred direction was approved by the Senior Leadership Team in February, following extensive review and alignment with broader group branding strategy.

The rebrand will provide a  clearer identity for a changing landscape. At a time when students, employers and communities are seeking clarity, leadership and strong regional opportunities, the rebrand positions UCSE as a confident, visible and forward-thinking alternative to traditional university pathways.

The updated branding will be supported by a full suite of brand guidelines, ensuring consistency across all communications and touchpoints.

The rebrand reflects UCSE’s continued commitment to delivering education that is relevant, inclusive and aligned with regional economic needs. Through strong partnerships with employers and leading validating institutions, UCSE ensures its programmes equip students with the skills, confidence and qualifications required for long-term success.

South Essex Colleges Group CEO, Denise Brown said: “We are proud to unveil the new University Centre South Essex brand at such a pivotal time for higher education in our region. This rebrand reflects our ambition to provide accessible, high-quality, career-focused education that meets the needs of students, employers and the wider community, while positioning UCSE strongly for the future.”

University Centre South Essex is the region’s dedicated higher education centre, offering ambitious students in South Essex a modern, career-driven, university-level experience connected directly to industry, employers and professional practice. As part of the South Essex Colleges Group, UCSE combines the strength, scale and quality assurance of a large education group with personalised support and a real-world focus, helping students thrive in their chosen careers.
