Academic and Digital Skills

The Learning Service team provides a wide range of skills development support for you whilst studying at University Centre South Essex. The support we provide is generic across the aboard however is personalised for each side of the faculty, creative arts and social sciences.

Academic skills

The Learning Resources team supports our college community with library resources and expert advice on academic skills and research.

A member of the team dedicated to HE support works with students on developing skills such as research, essay writing, referencing, presentations and much more.

This is carried out through 1:1 provision, workshops and online tutorials.

The team also provides access to learning resources, study spaces, and student network computers. In the Learning Resource Centres you will also find a range of support services staff, including Learning Technology, Computing Services, Careers Advice and Central Administrative Support. The LRC’s are open from 8.30am to 5pm on Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.30pm on Friday and are staffed to support you if required.

Our online catalogue, SherlockHE, allows students to search all the books and wide variety of online resources we have available such as journals, magazines and eBooks.

Digital skills

The Learning Technology team supports our college community with using technology both fundamental and assistive to your learning.

A member of the team dedicated to HE support works with students on developing skills using systems such as Microsoft office, our virtual learning environment (VLE) Canvas and technologies that support your studies.

This is carried out through 1:1 provision, workshops and online tutorials.
