Students reached the finish line at last nights graduation

University Centre South Essex students celebrated their degree achievements at the university’s annual Graduation ceremony.

The event, which took place at the Cliffs Pavilion, Southend, saw more than 300 students receive higher education awards in a range of subjects, with 48 of them receiving First Class Honours and 14 others receiving special awards. 

The diplomas were awarded by special guest, Giovanna Fletcher who, herself was honoured with a Doctor of Letters honoris causa by the university. 

Mum of three Giovanna, is a hugely successful author, podcast host and Queen of The Castle after winning I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in 2020, with 2 million followers on Instagram.

Giovanna is also a patron for CoppaFeel! and an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust and Tommy’s.

She gave an inspiring speech to the class of 2022 and said: “This evening was amazing, it is so inspiring to see both young people and adults striving for their future. You can see in each of their faces how deservedly proud they are of their achievements.”

Adam Fahey, Vice Principal Curriculum and Quality at South Essex College, said: It has been an exceptionally busy and successful year for our higher education students. I know I speak for all of my colleagues when I say how proud we are of all their achievements.”
