In response to the present employment climate within the Performing Arts sector, it is important for students to recognise that to navigate a successful career which is both sustainable and has longevity requires adaption and a multifaceted approach.
Our one year programme is designed to allow students to curate their own bespoke learning experience, crossing performance specialisms to extend the diversity of their skill set and inform their career development. With units designed specifically to facilitate students growth as emerging practitioners, students are encouraged to explore current industry expectations, trends and employment routes preparing them to navigate their own unique career path. Theoretical scrutiny of underpinning theories approaches and contextual factors which have influenced the art form is used to support personal lines of enquiry and the critical evaluation of their own adaptability and entrepreneurial attitude for sustainable employment.
Entry Requirements
- 240 credits (120 at Level 4 and 120 at Level 5) achieved through a Performing Arts qualification
- IELTS (Academic) 6
- IELTS 6.0 minimum 5.5 across all components (Academic) 6
This list is not exhaustive other qualifications may be considered. Entry to this course will also be determined by the quality of your application looking primarily at an audition set by the course team personal statement and reference.

Assessment & Feedback
All assessments on the Performing Arts BA (Hons) Top Up is via coursework; there are no exams.
Coursework is assed in a range of different ways in order to accommodate a variety of learning styles and aptitudes including workshops rehearsals performances presentations viva voce written essays dissertation and portfolio.
You will receive on-going feedback as part of your one-to-one sessions with your unit teachers. You will also receive summative feedback on all formal assessments undertaken by coursework. Feedback is intended to help you learn and you are encouraged to discuss it with your unit leader. Feedback can be given in a range of different ways in order to accommodate a variety of learning styles and aptitudes including group critiques, recorded verbal feedback and written feedback.

Fees are per academic year for Home/UK students.
The following course-related costs are included in the fees:
- Guest speakers, visiting lecturers and industry focussed workshops will be included in your course over the three years.
- Final Year students will have the opportunity to showcase their final year work at the end of their studies. This may be a local, national or online platform. Event/exhibition costs will be covered by the Faculty of HE. In the past this has included Festivals and at the Towngate Theatre. Students will be responsible for any additional costs associated with the production of their personal project (ie: printing, materials).
- Annual £20 of printing credit per year.
What Next...
After completing the BA (Hons) Top Up year in Performing Arts many graduates enter into the industry following a variety of employment routes. Others chose to continue their studies at post-graduate levels.
