I live in Grays and the college was close. The college and the course were very good and there wasn’t one favourite part because I enjoyed everything about it. It was very friendly and inclusive. I would like to pursue investment banking. I’m going to take a gap year and then go to university.

I feel very proud of myself for being able to get to the same pathway, and for the staff who have supported me over the eight years since starting college. Celebrating Success 2026: Teaching and Learning Student of the Year – Abbie Jones

I started this course not only to become a qualified teacher and improve my practice, but also to prove to myself that I had the capability to achieve it. SECG has fantastic tutors and support staff, they are all brilliant and truly care about individual wellbeing and success. The smaller cohorts mean they have the time to dedicate to each student, guiding them to be their best selves. It was exactly what I needed to navigate my self‑doubts and learning needs. I would, and have, recommended the course to anyone who wishes to become a great teacher.

Celebrating Success 2026: Music Student of the Year – Jeremy Middleton

I chose to study at Thurrock when I was deciding between theatre arts and music. I was 16 when I joined, and I was more interested in music than acting, so I went with what felt true to me. I’m more than happy with the choice I made. The thing I enjoyed most was working together with other musicians in rehearsal spaces, that was my favourite part, always the fun part.
