Course Overview

The Computing Online Degree Pathway offers a flexible and recognised route into higher education. Delivered online and accredited by Pearson, the programme provides essential computing knowledge and skills while supporting progression to the final year of a computing-related Honours degree.

The course is delivered fully online, allowing you to study flexibly while engaging with applied activities that reflect real workplace challenges. You will be supported by experienced tutors and guided through learning that encourages problem solving, critical thinking and professional development. Digital technologies, data security and business systems are embedded throughout the programme, reflecting current workplace requirements.

You can study Year 1 as a stand‑alone Higher National Certificate (HNC) or continue to Year 2 to achieve a Higher National Diploma (HND).

The pathway is structured over 2 years. In the first year, you will study Level 4 units that introduce core computing concepts including programming, networking, database design and development, cyber security, professional practice and software development. You will also complete a computing project and explore how organisations operate within the digital economy. In the second year, Level 5 units build on this knowledge, focusing on systems analysis and design, network management, database management systems, business process support, the Internet of Things, digital sustainability and a substantial computing research project. This Pearson accredited programme provides a flexible online alternative to completing the first 2 years of a computing degree, offering a clear progression route into the final year of a related degree or further professional development within the technology sector. By the end of the pathway, you will have developed the technical knowledge, practical skills and industry understanding needed to progress into higher level study or a range of computing and digital technology careers.
