Assessment & Feedback

The course is split into 2 parts:

Level 4 Higher National Certificate: Year 1

The Level 4 provides learners with comprehensive foundational knowledge through a structured curriculum comprising essential core modules and specialised content. This educational framework enables students to develop competencies and practical experience relevant to diverse professional environments within the computing industry at Level 4 qualification standards.

This Level 4 qualification serves as an effective foundation for developing fundamental computing competencies while preparing learners for advanced specialisation opportunities at Level 5. Students acquire comprehensive industry knowledge through various learning methodologies including independent research activities, self-directed learning, guided instruction, and real-world professional scenarios that bridge academic theory with practical application.

Level 5 Higher National Diploma: Year 2

The Level 5 builds upon the foundational knowledge established at Level 4, enabling students to explore computing concepts with significantly greater depth and complexity. This advanced qualification expands upon the core principles and specialised pathways introduced previously, allowing learners to develop sophisticated analytical skills and comprehensive understanding of their chosen field.

Students engage with more challenging theoretical frameworks, advanced practical applications, and complex problem-solving scenarios that prepare them for senior technical roles or progression to degree-level study. The enhanced curriculum at Level 5 emphasises critical evaluation, independent research, and the synthesis of knowledge across multiple computing disciplines, fostering the advanced competencies required for leadership positions within the technology sector.

Assessment Requirements

There are no external exams included in this study programme, instead, you will complete several written assignments.

The curriculum is set up to support a portfolio approach to continuous assessment. Learners will study modules and develop a portfolio of evidence. Each module will have milestones where formative assessment is provided, and learners can then continue to work on their portfolios before a final submission at the end of the module.
